Is it true that the engine exhaust plumes diverge from 1 another on the port side and converge on the starboard side in the case of a 4 engined aircraft,?
Does anyone have an explanation for this? Is this phenomenon dependant on factors such as temperature, pressure, etc.?
Thanks.

True only for eastbound aircraft, the reverse happens on westbound craft. It's due to coriolis forces.

If it is due to corioliss, why would exhaust plumes divergence switch sides of the plane going westbound? "Do not worry about your problems with mathematics, I assure you mine are far greater." Albert Einstein 字串9 Have you read FAQ731-376 to make the best use of Eng-Tips Forums?
