I am researching the best airfoil desing for an aircraft that will be launched super sonic M=1.2 and glide to a speed of roughly M=0.4. After that the flight is over. Are there any good reference books/materials on airfoil design for both of these environments? I don't need to necessarily go through a full airfoil optimization, but I need to know some general information about the airfoil (L/D, Pressure Dist., etc.)

Hi oppenh
Try with "Supercritical wing sections" by Bauer,F and Garabedian,P Springer- Verlag. ( 3 vol, 1972,1975,1977)

Hoerner's handbook is/was the bible of air vehicle design. 字串7 I don't know about current availability. His wife used to publish it out of Bricktown NJ. jk

For subsonic part there are a some good implementations of Vortice panel methos to analyze airfoils - the finest shareware I tried is AirfoilAnalysis wich is in Mac and Windows plattforms. Maybe you can try it. It is in versiontracker.com
